Red, White, Blue & Green

Red, White, Blue & Green

Friends, families and communities come together to jubilate with fireworks and barbeques that fill the sky with sounds of celebration. But, ironically, all of this festivity doesn’t come free. We may have declared independence from Great Britain but we’re far from independent from planet Earth. While we no longer depend on a king’s jurisdiction for sustenance, we’re at the mercy of our environment. It’s hard to say how much waste is produced on Independence Day but ...

They are inconvenient to live without, but they cause more problems for our world than you might have considered. First up, they are a major contributor to climate change as their production and break down release harmful greenhouse gases. They commonly cause wildlife injuries as they can easily float from habitat to habitat, where they can be mistake for food or shelter. One of the most alarming byproducts, is how easily they can end up in our waterways as microplastics, breaking down smaller and smaller until they are invisible to the human eye. At the rate of current production, plastic in our oceans will outweigh ...

Not only can the chemicals commonly found in human diets negatively affect that animal, but if they are drawn to areas of high traffic, it is far more likely that they will be hit by a vehicle. Beyond that, much of what we see littered ...
